The Benedictine monks of the Middle Ages developed the spiritual expression of Gregorian chants between the 9th and 10th century in western and central Europe, primarily in the region of eastern France. This artistic cultural sect of Benedictine monks created chants to express their faith through music, under a form of monophonic sacred song. Some scholars believe this style of chant was established during Carolingian dynasty of Roman chant and Gallican chant.
Regardless of its origin, the Gregorian chnat is still studied in conservatories and sung by the monks today.
Produced by John Matarazzo of Logical Drift, the Gregorian Chant album is a testimony of field recordings of the “Monks Of The Abbey Of Notre Dame”. Its classical sound solidifies the great works reconstructed within the late twentieth century.
