Probably the most prominent Mayan-Aztec flutist on the face of this marvelous Earth, Xavier Quijas Yxayotl shines with creativity, and not just an amazing flutist. Xavier became one of Mexico’s few artists who are able to construct instruments with his own hands, based on ancient manuscripts, which are identical to the instruments used by the pre-Hispanic peoples. He’s also the only one on Earth who has patented the ‘Fire Flute’ – a flute made of clay that is lit on fire using copal incense. Xavier has had the privileged to perform for the Dalai Lama, at the United Nations on behalf of Mexico, the Nobel Peace Price and one of the only artists to perform on stage at the Grammy’s for 15+ minutes (how can you kick him off!).
